Privacy Policy

Effective date: 10 June 2026 · Applies to the Plant Diary Android application.

Plant Diary is an Android app for keeping photos, care details, and a diary for the plants you grow. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, what it never collects, and how you stay in control. We've written it in plain language because the short version matters: your plants are your business.

1. Who this policy is from

This policy is provided by the developer of the Plant Diary app (“Plant Diary,” “we,” “us”). It covers the Plant Diary Android application distributed through the Google Play Store.

2. What the app collects

Plant Diary uses two Google Firebase services for diagnostics. Both are off by default and collect nothing until you explicitly turn them on:

• Share usage statistics (Firebase Analytics). When you enable this, the app sends anonymous usage statistics — for example, which features are opened and how often — so we can understand feature usage and improve the app's usability. This is described as usage statistics, not anonymous-by-default data, and it is sent only while the option is on.
• Send crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics). When you enable this, the app sends diagnostic crash reports if the app fails — for example, the type of error and the technical state at the time of the crash — so we can identify and fix application failures.

These two choices are independent. You can use Plant Diary fully with either or both turned off.

3. What the app never collects

Your plant records and personal content are never included in any Firebase usage statistic, crash report, diagnostic key, log, or breadcrumb. Specifically, the following are never collected or transmitted:

• Plant names
• Biological (species) names
• Treatment names
• Note text
• Descriptions
• Photos
• Photo file paths
• Imported or exported app data

This holds whether or not you have enabled usage statistics or crash reports. Turning those options on never adds any of the content above to what is sent.

4. Your photos and content stay on your device

The plant and timeline photos you add, along with all of your plant details, notes, treatments, and diary entries, are stored locally on your device and owned by the app. They are not uploaded to Plant Diary or to Firebase.

Adding a photo does not require a separate analytics or crash-report choice. If you use the app's import or export feature, that data moves only to or from the location you choose on your device or through the system share sheet — it is not sent to us.

5. How you control collection

You decide what, if anything, is shared, and you can change it any time:

• During first-time setup. On the Privacy Choices page of onboarding, both “Share usage statistics” and “Send crash reports” are presented as toggles that are off by default. You can start using the app with either or both left off.
• At any time afterward. Open Settings → Privacy in the app to turn either option on or off. Changes apply immediately.

Turning an option on enables future collection for that service. Turning it off prevents future collection for that service from that point on.

6. Data retention

When usage statistics or crash reports are turned off, the app stops collecting and sending that data going forward. Any data that was already transmitted while an option was on is retained and deleted according to this policy and to Google Firebase's standard retention and deletion rules for Analytics and Crashlytics. Data stored locally on your device — your plants, notes, and photos — remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.

7. Third-party services

The diagnostic features above are provided by Google Firebase (Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics). When you have opted in, data sent by those features is processed by Google in line with Google's privacy practices. 8. Children's privacy

Plant Diary is a general-audience gardening app and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app never collects your plant content regardless of age.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and revise the effective date at the top. Significant changes will be reflected here before the corresponding app version is released, and the policy will stay consistent with the app's privacy controls and the Google Play Data Safety declaration.
